Introducing myself, Kristin Owner/Florist of The Flower Slab in Stockdale, Tx.
I have now lived in the Wilson County area since August of 2019. My husband Ralph (a veteran of the Army) and I married in November of 2019 and we currently own not only the flower shop, but a restaurant/meat market in a small town of Stockdale, Tx. I currently have 4 dogs, farm, and co-own two businesses. I've been constantly on the move or going for the past five plus years.
Now how did I get into the floral business? Well, the florist at the time was ready to move on to other adventures in life and wanted to sell the floral shop. We were approached first in possibly buying it out. If it was not bought out then the town would have lost its only floral shop. I knew all eyes were on me and was told to shadow the florist. At that time in life, I was a full time teacher at Floresville South ISD and my only time to follow and see how the business works was during Thanksgiving Break. I shadowed, listened, and was even thrown into making arrangements.
Let me tell you, at first I was horrible at making floral arrangements! I knew coming back the next day and seeing the whole arrangement redone into something completely different was really discouraging. I thought there was no way I could do this and don't have the talent for this kind of creativity and artistry. I started to research, watching a bunch of floral videos, looking at books, and just everything I can get my hands on and just kept trying. After shadowing and learning the basics, my husband and I decided to go ahead and make the purchase. Starting in December of 2022, the flower shop was ready to start making it our own.
I ended up leaving the teaching world after 9 years in 2023 to continue making beautiful and unique florals.
I currently am still the only floral shop in the town. I make arrangements for everything. Birthdays, Anniversaries, Just Because, Funerals/sympathy, Weddings, Events, etc... I'm also working on ways to expand and offer more services for the community. This blog is for those who are interested or curious about what I do with flowers daily, weekly, or what customers are ordering. Along with what is in stock and what events are happening in the floral world.
